Sugar Ray Leonard: The Big Fight

I interviewed the champ about his new memoir, The Big Fight: My Life In and Out of the Ring (Viking) for LAmag.com this week. The book, co-written with Michael Arkush, candidly reveals the boxing great’s rough childhood and personal transgressions (cheating on his wife, struggles with alcoholism), and provides an entertaining blow-by-blow of his remarkable career. Leonard told me he mostly wrote the book in his Pacific Palisades home, but sometimes he just had to get out of the house — so he took his writing work to his club, The Riviera, or to coffee shops around town. Just another L.A. writer.
